Samsung may soon let you repair your own smartphone: Here’s what it means

Samsung mobile users may soon have the option of repairing their smartphones themselves. The company is launching a unique self-repair program, wherein the consumers will be provided with the required spare parts and in return will take the damaged parts, and use it for recycling purposes.

After all, most services charge a fixed labor fee, which covers most repair costs for people. Now that you’re doing the repair yourself, that cost may be less.

Consumers will be sent parts, and a guide to help them open the device and make the necessary changes to their smartphone. Samsung will share more details about the program, where it will be available (in which countries) and how much parts will cost in the coming months. Samsung is reportedly going to offer parts like display, back glass panel and charging components.

Samsung is rolling out the program for its high-end smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S21 series of smartphones. It has also added Galaxy Tab S7+ model to its repair lineup to begin with.

The company should add more devices to the list in the near future, which is likely to have more mid-range products. Mail-in service will be offered to the consumers to send their old parts and receive new parts from the brand.

The company also wants to help reduce the e-waste in your home and promises to take broken appliances or parts thereof that will be recycled and put back into the system once again.
