Samantha Ruth Prabhu has publicly praised the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) for their relentless efforts in seeking justice and ensuring a dignified professional environment for women in the Malayalam film industry. The acclaimed actress took to her Instagram stories to express her admiration and gratitude towards the women of the WCC, acknowledging the significance of their long-fought battle.

The WCC, a powerful collective advocating for gender equality in the film industry, has recently gained widespread attention after the Hema Committee’s report was unveiled. This 235-page document, which has been at the center of a political storm in Kerala, exposed shocking instances of sexual exploitation, illegal bans, discrimination, drug and alcohol abuse, and wage disparity in the Malayalam film industry. The committee, formed by the Kerala government in response to a petition submitted by the WCC in 2017, was tasked with studying the challenges faced by women in the industry. Although the report was completed in December 2019, it remained under wraps due to its sensitive content.

Samantha, in her Instagram story, shared a heartfelt message lauding the WCC for their courage and perseverance. “To all the women in WCC, I stand with you. Your fight for justice has inspired many, including myself,” she wrote, adding that the collective’s persistence in advocating for a safe and respectful workspace for women in cinema is commendable. Her words resonated deeply with fans and supporters of the movement, further amplifying the conversation around gender issues in the entertainment industry.

The WCC also reflected on their journey, stating that they feel vindicated after years of struggle. The collective emphasised that the report’s findings highlight the urgent need for reforms to protect women in the industry. “It has been a long journey,” they said, but they remain steadfast in their mission to create a safer environment for all women in cinema.

In addition to her support for the WCC, there has been speculation about Samantha’s potential debut in the Malayalam film industry. Rumours suggest that she may star alongside the legendary Mammootty in a film directed by celebrated filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon. While this news has generated significant buzz among fans, there has been no official confirmation of the project yet.
