Even though the reason for Samantha coming to Mumbai is not known, it is speculated that it may be related to the heartland of India. Samantha will play the lead role in the Indian version of the international series opposite Varun Dhawan.

The film portrays the epic love story of Shakuntala and King Dushyanta from the Mahabharata, portrayed by Samantha and Dev Mohan respectively. The film also boasts of an accomplished star cast including Sachin Khedekar Kabir Bedi, Dr. M Mohan Babu Prakash Raj, Madhubala, Gautami, Aditi Balan, Ananya Nagalla and Jisshu Sengupta among others. Another addition to the starcast is Allu Arha, daughter of icon star Allu Arjun who is playing the role of Rajkumar Bharath. It will release on February 17 in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
