'Sad mistake': US admits 10 civilians killed in drone strike in Kabul

A US top general said after the investigation, “The strike was a tragic mistake.”

Washington:

A top general admitted that the United States had made a “mistake” in a drone strike against suspected Islamic State militants in the Afghan capital Kabul on August 29, confirming that it killed 10 civilians instead.

US Central Command commander General Kenneth McKenzie said the attack was aimed at a suspected IS operation that US intelligence had “reasonable certainty” about the purpose of the attack on Kabul airport.

“The strike was a tragic mistake,” McKenzie told reporters after the investigation.
