Sacred Games Star Nawazuddin Siddiqui Confirms Not To Do OTT Show, Here’s Why

Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his breakout debut on OTT with the Netflix series Sacred Games, which released in 2018 followed by Season 2 in 2020. Subsequently, Nawazuddin acted in several well-received films which were released directly on the digital medium, namely Raat Akeli Hai, Ghoomketu and Gambhir Purush.

For some time now, Nawazuddin has been openly expressing his displeasure over how the content on OTT series by series is getting thinner. Now, in a big revelation, the actor has claimed that he will no longer do the series for the web.

He told Bollywood Hungama, “The platform has become a dumping ground for redundant shows. We either have shows that are not worth watching. Or sequels to shows that have nothing more to say. When I did Sacred Games for Netflix, there was excitement and challenge in the digital medium. New talent was being given a chance, now the freshness is gone. It has become a dhanda (racket) for big production houses and actors who are now so called stars on OTT platforms. Major filmmakers in Bollywood have struck lucrative deals with all the big players in the OTT sector. Manufacturers get huge amounts for creating unlimited content. The quantity has killed the quality.”

He confirmed that he will no longer sign up for OTT shows and said, “How can I be in them when I can’t bear to watch them?”

Meanwhile, among many other projects, Nawaz is set to star in Tiku and Sheru, which is backed by Kangana Ranaut’s production house Manikarnika Films and will release directly on digital. It is being told as a dark comedy.
