The campaign is being seen by many as an attempt to send out a message that the pilot has the support of people across the state.
Pilot and the MLAs who supported him had revolted against Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot last year, following which the Congress leader was removed from the posts of state party chief and deputy chief minister of Rajasthan.
A leader overseeing the preparations said, “We planned this massive state-level campaign, arranged saplings and water tankers in a matter of days and this shows how much support the pilot is getting across Rajasthan. The campaign will be run successfully tomorrow.” .
At least 5,000 saplings would be planted in each of the 200 assembly constituencies, he said.
“The tree plantation drive will be carried out across the state. However, in Jaipur, Bharatpur, City And in Ajmer division, more plantation is expected than the target.
Mahesh Sharma, former general secretary of PCC, said, “Preparations for a massive tree plantation drive have been going on for the past several days and saplings have been procured from across the state. Some trucks of saplings have been called from Maharashtra and Karnataka.”
“The campaign is inspired by the pilot’s concerns for the environment, so we plan to implement it. The entire exercise will be done scientifically and records of all plants will be collected,” he said.
Several MLAs and senior leaders of the party will participate in the tree plantation drive.
State Congress Committee vice-president and former minister Rajendra Chaudhary said that all the preparations have been completed in all the seven divisions of the state.
Congress MLA from Ladnun (Nagaur) Mukesh Bhakar said that tree plantation drive will be carried out on the land of public places, local bodies, schools and parks.
“Party workers and youth will break Dungarpur’s one-day record. From senior leaders to youth, everyone is excited for tomorrow’s campaign,” he said.
“We are hopeful that the number of plants will cross the one million mark,” Bhakar said.
