Bommai will take oath as the Chief Minister on July 28 at 11 am.
The decision to appoint Bommai as Yeddyurappa’s successor was taken during the BJP Legislature Party meeting held in Bengaluru. His name was proposed at the legislature party meeting in Bengaluru by outgoing CM BS Yediyurappa, who resigned from the post on Monday.
“The new leader was proposed by senior leader BS Yediyurappa and supported by Govind Karjol, R Ashoka, KS Eshwarappa, B Sriramulu, ST Somashekar, Poornima Srinivas, and the newly elected legislature party leader and the new chief minister will be Basavaraj Bommai,” BJP’s central observer and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan said after the meeting.

After his election as the CM of Karnataka, Bommai said it was a huge responsibility given the “given situation” and confirmed that he would work for the welfare of the poor.
Bommai said, “It is a big responsibility in the given situation. I will try to work for the welfare of the poor. It will be in the interest of the people and governance for the poor people.”

He further said that he will try to provide relief to the people affected by Kovid-19 and floods and improve the economic condition of Karnataka.
“I will work day and night to provide relief to those in distress due to Covid or the recent floods.
I will take all steps to improve the economic condition of the state in the coming days.”
After the announcement of the caretaker CM of Karnataka, BS Yediyurappa said, “We have unanimously elected Basavaraj S Bommai as the leader. BJP Legislature Party. I thank PM Modi for his support. He (Bommai) will work hard under the Prime Minister’s leadership.”
Yeddyurappa’s trusted lieutenant
Bommai, a Yeddyurappa loyalist, started his political career with the Janata Dal.
He represents the Shiggaon constituency of Haveri district and held the portfolios of Home, Law and Parliamentary Affairs in Yeddyurappa’s cabinet.
His caste, educational qualification, administrative ability and proximity to Yeddyurappa and BJP central leaders are cited as reasons for his choice for the post.
The 61-year-old is the son of late former chief minister SR Bommai, who was in office from 1988-1989. bommai is from chief Veerashaiva-Lingayati The community to which Yeddyurappa also belongs.
The community accounts for 16-17 per cent of the state’s population and is counted as the major vote-base of the BJP.
Ending speculations of a change of leadership in Karnataka, Yediyurappa had announced his resignation in an emotional speech to mark the completion of two years of his government in the state.
Yediyurappa said, “Nobody pressured me to resign. I did it on my own so that someone else can take over as the chief minister after the completion of two years of the government. I want to bring back the BJP to power in the next election.” I’ll work for.”
The governor had accepted Yediyurappa’s resignation and dissolved the council of ministers headed by him with immediate effect, but asked him to continue serving as chief minister.
