South African batting sensation Devald Brewis has called his MI teammates Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav as his ‘models’.

MI Cape Town rising star Devald Brewis, who set the stage on fire with a blistering 70 in the opening match of the ongoing SA20 League, says that he is proud of his Mumbai Indians teammate Rohit Sharma and teammate Suryakumar Yadav. consider as their ideal.

Brewis has so far scored 133 runs in five matches in the South African T20 league at a strike rate of 117.

Talking on the eve of MICT’s game against Paarl Royals, the youngster, who was roped in by Mumbai Indians last season, said that he is happy to represent two teams from the MI family.

“My blood is blue and my favorite color is blue. So just to be able to be a part of this one family, it’s been amazing like the setup here in Cape Town. When Brewis was asked about his feelings about playing against and with people he idolized growing up, he remarked, “I idolize a lot of players, for example, Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar and all the other big players, I really enjoyed playing with them. Legends.”

Brewis had a huge fan moment when he joined MI during the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recalling his reaction, he said, “I feel I have learned a lot in the IPL. I had my fanboy moments after meeting these stars but my coaching team made me feel like family and I got advice.” Granted I shouldn’t be scared, I think it helped me too.

The South Africa Under-19 star mentioned that he is enjoying batting in this tournament and is loving playing in front of a packed Newlands.

Commenting on his learning experience in setting up MI Cape Town with the coaching team, he said, “It’s new things you learn from them. They give you valuable inputs. Hash (Hashim Amla), he’s an amazing coach and person That’s why he brings peace in me and helps me to pursue many things.”

“Even with coach Simon, he’s amazing as a coach. So there’s always time to share things and learn from him. We always talk a lot about it and things going on with my batting. So all the coaches share so much great information that you can take into your own game.”
