India batsman Ajinkya Rahane felt that the second Test against South Africa at Wanderers gives his team a fresh start and give their best in the next five days. He also admitted his disappointment at being dismissed in the first Test at Centurion. Rahane scored 48 and 20 runs in both the innings of the Centurion Test.
“I love this ground. I love playing here because I get great vibes from this ground. Last time we played here, we played really good cricket. We started really well in the first test match. It’s all, again, starting from scratch. The beauty of Test matches is that you start from scratch every time, whether you win or lose. It’s all about starting anew and doing your best today It’s about giving,” Rahane said in a pre-match interaction with the broadcasters.
When asked about the 113-run win in the first Test, Rahane said, “Our performance as a team was really good in all departments, batting, bowling and fielding in the last Test. But, in this Test match, we need to adjust to these new conditions and play accordingly. The first hour in this Test match, be it batting or bowling, will be really important.”
Rahane looked good at the crease before getting out playing cut and hook respectively. He admitted that the manner of his dismissal was not very good.
“I’m feeling really good mentally. It’s about converting those starts into big ones. I think it’s a matter of spending more balls and playing to the best of my ability. I did well in the last match.” Batted in but was disappointed with the way I got out in both the innings. In this game I will start fresh and believe in my ability as a batsman and stay in the present.”
The 33-year-old signed off saying that India will look at the Wanderers currently.
“We like to be in the present. We celebrated a little bit (first Test win) but we know, there’s just one Test match and two more matches left, so it’s a matter of being positive, staying in the present and giving my best.
