Russia-Ukraine crisis: Adidas suspends partnership with Russian Football Federation

new Delhi: In the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, sports equipment giant Adidas has suspended partnership with the Russian Football Federation, the spokesman said, AFP news agency reported.

“Adidas is suspending its partnership with the Russian Football Federation (RFU) with immediate effect,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The German sportswear giant has served as the country’s kit manufacturer since 2008, designing shirts for their home World Cup in 2008.

In any case, he has put his deal with the Russian national team on hold for the time being as the death toll continues to rise in Eastern Europe.

Adidas’s decision comes after Manchester United reported that they have completed their £40 million deal with Russian-held airline Aeroflot.

A club statement read: “In light of the events in Ukraine, we have withdrawn the sponsorship rights to Aeroflot. We share the concerns of our fans around the world and express our sympathies to those affected.”

“Football is in complete solidarity here and in full solidarity with all those affected in Ukraine,” FIFA and UEFA said in a joint statement.

“Both Presidents hope that the situation in Ukraine will improve significantly and rapidly so that football can again become a vector for unity and peace among peoples.”

UEFA also ended its sponsorship with the Russian energy giant Gazprom.
