There was a fierce ruckus in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday over the infamous gangster Mukhtar Ansari. Jail Minister Harjot Bains claimed that Ansari was lodged in a Punjab jail after registering a fake FIR. In jail, he lived with his wife instead of the rest of the prisoners. Due to this disclosure of the jail minister, a lot of uproar started. Opposition Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa said that the jail minister has said this in the assembly. If this is not proved, then the minister will have to resign.
Revelations of Jail Minister Harjot Bains
- Notorious gangster Mukhtar Ansari was imprisoned in Punjab for 2 years and 3 months.
- A fake FIR was filed against Ansari. He deliberately did not take bail in that case.
- The barracks in which 25 people were supposed to come. His wife lived there.
- The UP government issued 26 warrants, but it was not sent from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh.
- The UP government went to the Supreme Court. In protest, the Punjab government hired a lawyer with a fee of Rs 11 lakh. Now its bill of 55 lakhs has come. Why should we give this bill?
- If the date of that lawyer had not come, then five and a half lakh rupees had to be paid.
- An inquiry has been ordered in this matter. Strict action will be taken by registering a case against those responsible for this.

Challenge of former jail minister, prove it
After the claim of Jail Minister Harjot Bains, former Congress jail minister Sukhjinder Randhawa said that Ansari’s wife used to live in jail, the minister should prove it. On this, Minister Harjot Bains said that orders have been given for investigation. Soon the truth will come in front of Punjab.

After the uproar, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa said that if the gangster is to be debated, then it should start with Lawrence. The Tihar Jail in which Lawrence is lodged is under the Delhi government. Aam Aadmi Party has the same government in Delhi. On this AAP MLAs said that we have brought him to Punjab.
Mukhtar Ansari was taken from Ropar Jail in Punjab to Uttar Pradesh in an ambulance in April last year.

Sukhjinder Randhawa, who was the jail minister in the previous Congress government, was constantly embroiled in controversies regarding Mukhtar Ansari. He also went on a tour of Uttar Pradesh. After which UP government minister Siddharth Nath Singh had also alleged that Randhawa had met Ansari’s family members. Ansari was lodged in Ropar jail at that time. However, Randhawa had denied that he did not meet any person related to Ansari during his visit to UP.

Mukhtar Ansari was accused of demanding extortion of 10 crores from the builder of Mohali in Punjab. He was brought to Mohali on a production warrant by the Punjab Police. On 24 January 2019, he was presented in the court and sent to Ropar jail. After this, on the orders of the Supreme Court, in April last year, he was taken from Punjab to Uttar Pradesh Police.
