RSS, BJP members do politics in the name of religion: Priyanka Gandhi

Rae Bareli: Supporting her brother Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Hinduism’ remark, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday alleged that members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) practice politics in the name of religion.

Emphasizing on “Hinduism teaches honesty and love among all”, the Congress leader said the members of the RSS and the BJP are not on the path of righteousness or honesty.

“RSS and BJP members do politics in the name of religion; They are not on the path of righteousness or honesty. Rahul ji is just trying to show the difference,” she said, reported ANI.

Taking a jibe at the BJP, Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that “Hindutvawadis” are directly responsible for the rising inflation, pain and sadness in the country.

Today there is inflation, pain and misery in our country, so this is the work of ‘Hindutvawadis’. Today the fight is between ‘Hindus’ and ‘Hindutvawadis’. If Hindus believe in ‘Satyagraha’, ‘Hindutvawadis’ believe in ‘Sattagraha’ (political greed),” he said while addressing a rally in his former stronghold Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka Gandhi, who is Congress’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge for the upcoming assembly elections, also accused the BJP government of “tapping” the opposition’s phones.

“What is the job of the government? To develop, understand and find solutions to the problems of the people and stop atrocities. This government is instead tapping the phones of the opposition,” she said.

The Congress leader is in Rae Bareli, the parliamentary constituency of his mother and party president Sonia Gandhi, to address ‘Mahila Shakti Samvad’, keeping an eye on the women voters of Uttar Pradesh.
