Rs 40 crore bungalow: Gift to Rana Kapoor’s 9-month-old grandson from his maternal grandmother

Wife of Bindu Rana Kapoor Yes Bank Founder and Former Managing Director Rana Kapoorhas gifted a property located in the posh Jorbagh area of ​​the national capital to his nine-month-old grandson Ashiv Khanna. According to documents provided by Zapkey.com, the gift was registered on July 31, 2021, on which stamp duty of Rs 36.90 lakh was paid in favor of Aashiv Khanna through Radha Kapoor Khanna, mother of Ashiv Khanna. As per the document Aashiv was registered as the natural guardian of Khanna.

The gifted property is a plot of 369.40 square meters in South Delhi Jorbagh area with 2 BHK, a parking slot and few other amenities. The estimated market value of the property is around Rs 40-44 crore. According to a document provided by Zapkey.com, another property in the same area in the same area was sold on July 24 this year for Rs 43.5 crore. Documents revealed that Rana Kapoor’s wife had inherited a share in her father’s property in 2004.

This act of gifting of assets by Rana Kapoor’s wife to nine-year-old grandson Ashiv Khanna is seen as a way to safeguard the possible attachment of properties in future. As before, the Enforcement Directorate has been attaching properties owned by Rana Kapoor across India.

In July last year, the Enforcement Directorate had provisionally attached assets worth Rs 2203 crore owned by Rana Kapoor in a money laundering case of alleged fraud to Yes Bank. Subsequently, in September last year, the Enforcement Directorate attached Yes Bank co-promoter Rana Kapoor’s flat worth Rs 127 crore in London. The property at 77 South Audley Street, London was attached under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. The market price of the flat is said to be around Rs 127 crore.

Earlier this week, the Central Bureau of Investigation had sought seven days custody of Rana Kapoor related to a complaint filed by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Bureau. The complaint claimed that Kapoor, his wife Bindu Rana Kapoor and Gautam Thapar’s company Avanta Realty Ltd conducted illegal property transactions of Rs 378 crore against the declared value of Rs 685 crore. The 1.2 acre bungalow is located on Amrita Shergill Marg in Delhi.

Two days after the Enforcement Directorate arrested Avantha Group promoter Gautam Thapar, the Central Bureau of Investigation is seeking the custody of Rana Kapoor. Thapar was arrested in Delhi on Tuesday night under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act after the agency conducted raids in Delhi and financial capital Mumbai.

In turn, the Yes Bank co-founder has been accused of favoring Avantha Group of Companies in the form of various credit facilities worth Rs 1,165 crore, which he was not entitled to. Earlier, the CBI had registered an FIR in this case in March 2020.

In an alleged fraud case related to a loan transaction with Avantha Group, a special court on Saturday allowed the CBI’s plea to send Rana Kapoor to seven days’ custody. After this order, now CBI officers will arrest him on Sunday by taking him into custody from Taloja Central Jail. Currently, Kapoor is lodged in Taloja Central Jail in an alleged money laundering case related to infrastructure company Dewan Housing Finance Ltd since March last year.
