Based on the life and times of Syed Abdul Rahim, Maidan is the biopic of the legendary Indian football coach who molded the football team from the 1950s to the early 1960s. Varun Dhawan will play the lead role of a brave officer who was martyred in the 1971 war between India and Pakistan at the young age of 21, hence the title Eckis. The film is directed by Sriram Raghavan and is much awaited among the audience. It will go on floors next year.

Gangubai Kathiawadi

Starring Alia Bhatt in the title role, Gangubai Kathiawadi will recreate 1960’s Lal Bazaar where brothel owners and pimps had political ambitions and had influence over all major areas of Mumbai. Gangubai, also known as the Madam of Kamathipura, fought for the improvement of the living conditions of sex workers during that time. The film is scheduled to release on 6 January.

Akshay Kumar will play the role of King Prithviraj Chauhan who fought Islamic invaders against his conquest of India.
