RRR OTT may take another 90 days? Can ‘explore pay per view model’, says makers

SS Rajamouli’s RRR starring Ram Charan, Jr NTR and Alia Bhatt is receiving an overwhelming response from the audience. The film was released in theaters on 25 March. It is no secret that the film will soon release on OTT as well. While fans are eagerly waiting for the official announcement regarding the same, here is something that might bother them for some time.

According to the producer of RRR, Jayantilal Gada, the OTT release of the film may take 75 to 90 days. “As said earlier, RRR will premiere only after completing 75 to 90 days on the OTT platform. If the model opens up then we can explore the pay-per-view model as well,” the manufacturer told Pinkvilla.

Further talking about the OTT release of Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR, he revealed that even though he has been approached with many people till now, he is not tempted for it. “We got many offers, but we were not tempted by them. These movies are bigger than the capacity of any one OTT player. In fact, they are so big that all OTT players are needed to partner for the premiership,” said Jayantilal Gada.

“We decided to put a moratorium on Gangubai and RRR for theaters as we knew neither of them needed to be monitored on OTT. We did heavy marketing for Gangubai and our team was all set to bring the audience back to the theatres,” he said.

Reportedly, RRR will be available on Netflix and Zee5 in Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Korean, Portuguese, Turkish and Spanish.

As for the unversed, RRR was released on March 25. It is based on the lives of Telugu freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, who fight to break away from the shackles of the British Empire in India. These two roles are played by Ram Charan and Jr NTR respectively. The film presents their friendship and dedication to work for the nation and work towards independence. The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn.

Meanwhile, the film is doing very well at the box office as well. Even the Hindi version of the film has collected over Rs 120 crore so far.
