SS Rajamouli has put India on the global map in more ways than one. A documentary, which pays tribute to the filmmaker, is currently in the making.

After weeks of speculation and aggressive campaigns, RRR failed to be selected as India’s official entry for the Academy Awards this year.

SS Rajamouli is upset that his blockbuster film RRR was not selected as India’s official entry to Oscars 2023 in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards. Director Paan Nalin’s Gujarati film Chhelo Show or The Last Film Show was chosen over RRR for India’s Oscar entry this year.

Now in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the director of RRR has broken his silence on this. The director said that he was “happy” for Chhelo to show up, but “everyone knew that RRR had a huge chance at the Oscars”.

“It’s disappointing. But we’re not the kind of people who will sit and think why it didn’t happen. What happened happened, and we have to get on with it. But I’m happy because this (Chello Show/The Last Film show) is also an Indian film and it is also shortlisted for Oscar. I am quite happy for it. Of course, everyone knew that RRR has a huge chance. Here (in America) everyone felt that RRR There is a big chance. But I don’t know what are the guidelines for the committee (Film Federation of India), the committee, I don’t know that and I can’t comment on that.

Recently, RRR won the Critics’ Choice Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film also won the Best Lyrics award for Naatu Naatu at the awards held in Los Angeles on Monday. The foot-tapping hit Naatu Naatu from SS Rajamouli’s RRR was also declared the Best Song (Motion Picture) at the 80th Golden Globes.

Rajamouli’s RRR, starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, tells the story of a fearless warrior who comes face to face with a steely cop serving the British Army in an epic saga set in pre-independence India.

Naatu Naatu has also been selected for the 95th Academy Awards in the Original Song category, and Ram Charan has said that if the film wins an Oscar, he and Jr. NTR will probably dance on stage as well. The Telugu track Naatu Naatu is composed by veteran music director MM Keeravani and sung by Kaal Bhairav and Rahul Sipligunj.
