Sunrisers Hyderabad rekindled their mastery of defending a low score as they worked their nerve to seal a thrilling four-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in Match 52. IPL 2021 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here on Wednesday. Chasing 142 runs, Bangalore needed 13 runs in the last over. But Bhuvneshwar Kumar defended the total with gusto despite AB de Villiers’ six and gave his team some joy in the midst of inclement weather.
In the very first over itself, Bhuvneshwar Kumar made Virat Kohli (five) lbw and Bangalore got an early blow. Daniel Christian was caught at mid-off by Siddharth Kaul. KS Bharat (12) hit two fours off Umran Malik in the seventh over.

The first ball of Rashid Khan off Glenn Maxwell hit deep mid-wicket in the eighth over. When Khan returned for his next over, Maxwell handled him again, smashing a six at long-on and then a wrist sweep through deep mid-wicket. Meanwhile Malik was beating Maxwell for speed. Maxwell’s 54-run stand with Devdutt Padikkal came to an end in the 15th over as Kane Williamson’s direct hit over cover took a sharp single to cut the right-hander short of his crease. Padikkal’s struggle to break free ended in the 17th over when Khan was dismissed at deep mid-wicket.
Shahbaz Ahmed took eleven wickets, including two fours, off Malik in the 18th over, taking the equation to 18 runs in the last two overs. Early in the 19th over, Kumar dropped Ahmed at long-on, but pulled it straight over mid-wicket off Jason Holder in the fourth ball. In the 12th over, Harshal Patel broke the partnership of 70 runs, Williamson (31) was bowled with an off cutter. Three overs later, a big effort from Priyam Garg was pulled towards deep mid-wicket off Daniel Christian. One brings two for Christian as Roy ends up staying at the crease and the bowler completes a quick comeback catch at follow-through.
In a successful review on the first ball of the 16th over, Yuzvendra Chahal added to Hyderabad’s troubles by dismissing Abdul Samad lbw. Two overs later, Wriddhiman Saha swung the loft to long-off on an off-cutter from Patel.
