In the 1990s, Daggubati Venkatesh was the ultimate star in the Telugu film industry. His films broke box office records and he was considered one of the most bankable stars in the industry. Agni Natchatiram / Gharshan
When Mani Ratnam decided to make the Tamil film Agni Natachathiram, the Telugu version of which was titled Gharana, he initially thought of Telugu heroes. Venkatesh and Nagarjuna were his first choices to play the lead roles. However, the two refused and Prabhu, a debutante of Tamil films, teamed up with Karthik to make a hit film with Mani Ratnam. However, it was a coincidence that Venkatesh later acted in a film called Gharana, which was a remake of the Tamil film Kakha Kakha.

Mani Ratnam again wanted to cast Venkatesh in this pan-India venture, but the actor was busy with the Telugu project Chanti at that time. Arvind Swami played the role and the film became a hit across the country.
OK Okkadu / Mudhalvani
Shankar’s trend-setting story in which a reporter becomes CM for a day was missed by Venkatesh. Shankar was looking at Venkatesh for the role, but the latter was once again busy shooting for Kalisundam Ra. The blockbuster was later remade with Arjun in the lead role and the Telugu version was called Mudhalvan.
Santosham
This Nagarjuna-starrer, directed by Dasaradha, was initially offered to Venkatesh. Since Venkatesh was working on similar light-hearted stories at the time, he rejected the film.
Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum
The film was written keeping Venkatesh in mind but incidentally his nephew Rana Daggubati played the lead role. However, Venkatesh played a cameo in this song directed by Krish.
govindudu andarivadele
Director Krishna Vamsi wanted to cast Venkatesh in the role played by Srikanth in the film. However, since it was not the main character, Venkatesh opted out of the film. Ram Charan played the lead role in the film.
