Former cricketer Aakash Chopra hailed Rohit Sharma as a man with a golden heart following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. Rohit led the Indian cricket team to overcome an 11-year-long draught for an ICC trophy. Under his captaincy, India enjoyed an unbeaten run in the T20 World Cup campaign. They continued their dominance in the final and defeated South Africa to secure the coveted silverware.

After the historic triumph, Chopra spoke highly of Rohit’s leadership skills, shedding light on his humble persona. According to the ex-cricketer, Rohit has a lovable nature that sets him apart from the other players in the Indian dressing room.

“Why is his captaincy so good? It’s because he creates an atmosphere like that. Whoever you speak to says Rohit Bhaiya is a very good captain. I have not come across a single person who says Rohit is not a good guy. I cannot say that for everyone but can say that for Rohit. Everybody who I have spoken to praises him. He is 24-carat pure gold,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Rohit Sharma announced his T20I retirement in a press conference after the T20 World Cup final. He bid adieu to the format after matching the feat of the legendary MS Dhoni, who won the inaugural T20 World Cup title in 2007. Back then, Aakash Chopra believed Rohit’s legacy would be remembered for ages just like the other two World Cup-winning captains– Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

“Rohit has five IPL trophies. He won a Champions League and has bid goodbye to T20I cricket with a T20 World Cup win. It will be remembered because only three Indians have lifted the World Cup trophy – Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni with two trophies, and one for Rohit Sharma. It will be remembered for centuries that Rohit Sharma was the captain who won the 2024 T20 World Cup,” Chopra said.

Having led the team in 62 matches in the shortest format, Rohit Sharma has registered 50 wins. His record as a batter is equally impressive. The opening batter has featured in 159 T20Is to score 4231 runs at an average of 32.05.
