Rohit Sharma scored 11,000 international runs as an opener

India’s opener Rohit Sharma has completed 13,000 international runs as an opener. He achieved this feat while batting against England at The Oval. Rohit had a long journey. Although he started opening in ODI cricket in 2013, his promotion as a Test opener lasted till October 2019. His journey went like this:

He scored 1,000 runs on 30 October 2013 and finally reached 11,000 runs on 2 October 2013. He managed to reach Mt 11k today against England. A lot will be expected from him as India look to overcome the first innings deficit by England.

India opener Rohit Sharma went past 15,000 runs in international cricket during India’s second innings against England at The Oval on Friday. With this feat, the right-hander has joined a special club as he has become only the eighth Indian batsman to achieve this feat in international cricket. And as is the case with many others on the coveted list, Sachin Tendulkar Leads the pack with 34,357 runs.

Other Indian players in the list are Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and Mohammad Azharuddin. Rohit is ranked 39th in the list of world’s leading run-scorers across all formats.

Rohit has scored his highest runs in ODI cricket. He has scored 9,205 runs in 227 ODIs. He completed 15000 international runs in his 397th innings. Indian captain Virat Kohli had completed 15,000 runs in just 333 innings, while Sachin Tendulkar had scored 15,000 international runs in 356 innings.

There has been a lot of change in Rohit’s career as an opener. He debuted as an opener in ODI cricket in 2013 and since then there has been no looking back. Now, in Test cricket, ever since he made his debut as an opener, he has become quite consistent. In tough English conditions, Rohit has shown the flair and tenacity to succeed at the highest level.
