Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan heaped praise on the new captain of Team India, Rohit Sharma and said that he is a very helpful soul. Rohit later took over the captaincy charge from Virat Kohli after he decided to step down in the T20I and Test formats. While Kohli was sacked from the ODI captaincy after relinquishing the T20I captaincy. Rohit started a new journey with back to back series victories over New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka in multiple formats.
Dhawan has played a lot of cricket with Rohit so far in his career and both have also achieved great success as opening partners in white-ball cricket. The southpaw lauded his teammate and the captain as he said the 34-year-old reads the game well and is very approachable.
“He’s a gem of a man. He’s cool, relaxed, smart and very friendly. That last bit (reachable) is his best quality. He studies the game very well. And he can be the captain now, But for those who know him, he is the same Rohit. He is a very helpful soul. And another good quality in him, even if he has something hard to tell you, he will tell you in a way that once he has it Wouldn’t feel it,” Dhawan told The Times of India.
Dhawan joined Punjab Kings this season for Rs 8.25 crore. The southpaw enjoyed great success with Delhi Capitals over the past few seasons as he scored over 450 runs in every IPL season since 2016.
The veteran opener is excited to be a part of the new franchise as he believes in his Punjabi flair that connects him with the new franchise fans.
“Yes. I am happy to be a part of Punjab Kings. I am a Punjabi boy, so the connection is definitely strong already. Like Delhi, Punjab is also home. I have been fond of Punjabi songs since childhood. Punjabi Family Being from, I also speak this language.
