Rock Alliance boat in danger due to bitter fight in Maha, hints at Rahul Gandhi’s meeting with Nana Patole

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole on Tuesday said that the Congress will contest elections to the Mumbai civic bodies independently. After meeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi In the presence of AICC general secretaries KC Venugopal and HK Patil in New Delhi, Patole’s statement seems to be a bit different from his earlier stand.

Patole was claiming that the Congress party would contest both the civic polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha and assembly elections independently. However, on Tuesday he said that the party will definitely contest the civic polls independently. “Lok Sabha and assembly elections are far away, we will fight all the upcoming civic polls independently,” Patole said.

Angered by Patole’s style of functioning and comments, party leader Rahul Gandhi called him to the national capital on Tuesday. Patole’s recent remarks relating to leaders of the other two ruling parties followed a rebuke from Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena chief and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Reportedly, Patole has been asked to refrain from making any controversial remarks that would affect the interest of the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) of the ruling alliance- Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress. The state unit chief has also been asked to refrain from commenting on the alliance between the ruling parties for the upcoming elections.

Days after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said he was politically against the Congress and the NCP, Patole created a ruckus by calling NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar a ‘remote control of the government’.

“There is no doubt that Sharad Pawar is the remote control (of Maharashtra government). We (Congress) do not make statements against any big leader, but any outsider should look into his party before making a statement.

Responding to Patole’s comments, senior Pawar said he would not react to what “little people” say, but will speak if Sonia Gandhi says anything.

Patole has been making headlines for his irresponsible and controversial statements ever since he took over as the party’s state unit chief in February. The announcement made soon after his announcement to go it alone in the local body and assembly elections did not go down well with the Shiv Sena and the NCP.

Currently, the Congress shares power in Maharashtra with the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In the 2017 Mumbai municipal elections, the Congress recorded its worst ever electoral performance in the city, managing to win just 31 seats out of a total of 227. In the same election, the BJP won 82 in Mumbai’s Shiv Sena stronghold. seats, just two seats behind the saffron ally.
