Rishabh Pant is reportedly likely to be discharged from the hospital in 2 weeks’ time while his rehabilitation could begin in a few months.

Team India Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant recently underwent a major surgery following a car accident while on his way from Delhi to Roorkee to surprise his mother.

It has been 10 days since Pant underwent knee surgery and has been kept under observation by doctors to assess his progress.

According to a report in The Times of India, Pant had undergone a major surgery to his medial collateral ligament (MCL) as well as a minor repair to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Doctors are hoping that the rest of the ligament will heal naturally, and the southpaw is currently under observation.

“All the ligaments were injured. The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is a cause of concern. The doctors said that MCL surgery is absolutely necessary. Now his PCL will be assessed in two weeks. Hopefully, it will not require further surgery As of now, he has essentially just undergone a major surgery,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying in the TOI report.

It also mentioned that Pant will be discharged from the hospital in two weeks’ time, after which his recovery will be monitored by the BCCI.

Following the accident, the 25-year-old was admitted to a hospital in Dehradun, following which he was recently flown to Mumbai so that the BCCI could handle his rehabilitation process.

“The ligaments usually heal in four to six weeks. After that rehabilitation and strengthening will begin. His return to sport will be assessed over the next two months.”

The report further added, “He will also have to undergo counseling sessions, it may take four to six months before he can resume playing.”
