Rishabh Pant joins the Test team after fully recovering from Kovid-19

Chester-le-Street (Durham): Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has joined the Indian Test squad here after recovering from Covid-19 and completing isolation, the Indian Cricket Board has confirmed.

“Hello @RishabhPant17, nice to have you back [emoticon: grinning face] #TeamIndia,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted.

The BCCI announced on July 15 that both Pant and training assistant Dayanand Garani had tested positive for Covid-19. The board said the young wicketkeeper was already in his eighth day of isolation at the time of the announcement.

Pant, who has now returned a negative test result, was in isolation for two weeks since testing positive.

Wriddhiman Saha, India’s other wicketkeeper on the tour, is still in isolation due to Garani’s contact with bowling coach Bharat Arun and standby batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran. All three are expected to come out of isolation on July 24.

In the absence of both Pant and Saha, the Indians have fielded KL Rahul as the wicketkeeper in the ongoing warm-up match against County Select XI.
