Rishabh Pant played a brilliant innings on the first day of the Test match against England. Pant scored his fifth Test century in just 89 balls. Several former cricketers lauded the wicketkeeper-batsman for his innings and managed to grab headlines on social media. Michael Vaughan also tweeted appreciating the brilliant innings at Edgbaston. The former England captain manages to rub Indian fans the wrong way with his Jonny Bairstow reference.
“It’s great to see .. Rishabh Pant doing a Johnny B,” he wrote.
Vaughan was apparently referring to the mind-blowing performance of England batsman Jonny Bairstow in the recently concluded Test series against New Zealand. Bairstow scored 394 runs in the three-match Test series at a strike rate of 120.12. He scored two centuries and one half-century in the series.
Indian fans pointed out that Rishabh Pant has been batting like this all his life.
Pant is in away matches. Johnny is just home track bully eye test,” was one of the responses.

At the same time, another Twitter user said that Pant has been batting in this style since 2018. Pant has been doing it since 2018 while Johnny from the last series. I know you are biased, but at least get your facts right,” he wrote.

Another Indian cricket fan wrote, “Rishabh Pant is doing his own magic and has done it so many times that Johnny will need some more career to get there. Don’t make fun of your player. He is scoring runs at home, not a big deal for an English player.”

One user said that Bairstow copied Pant’s batting style. “Correction* Jonny Bairstow speaks of Rishabh Pant… it’s a natural style of Pant.”
Improvement*
Jonny Bairstow did the work of Rishabh Pant…
This is Pant’s natural style— @me, m amanrajput (@aman21345863) 1 July 2022
Another comment was, “Pant has been batting like this for a few years, whereas Bairstow started batting like this in only three innings, and that too at his home ground.”

Pants has been doing this for 2-3 years as Johnny did in Series 1 and on Flat Deck. Today’s pitch served vs nz😐😐🤡🤡🤡 . twice as dangerous

Johnny B was doing this in his home condition. I am sure he will not be able to do such a thing outside England. Whereas Pant has been doing Pant in every country and in every condition since his debut.

Let’s see how Johnny B performs against Bumrah. If he plays even one good innings in the current Test, it will be an achievement for him.

Coming back into the match, Pant shared a solid 222-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (83 not out off 163 balls) to help the visitors overcome their initial scare. The Jasprit Bumrah-led side ended the first day’s play on 338/7.
