The Manipur government on Tuesday announced the closure of all schools due to a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases. The order said that all schools – government, state aided and private schools affiliated to other boards will remain closed with immediate effect till July 24. It said many schools were due to reopen after the summer break on July 16.

Announcing the decision to close the school, the Chief Minister of Manipur, CM N Biren Singh himself said on Twitter, “With the increasing number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state in the last few days, the Manipur government directed all schools to Is. The state will remain closed till 24th of this month. ,

As there is currently no effective COVID-19 vaccination for children below the age of 12 in Manipur, according to Chief Minister N Biren Singh, the government will discuss safeguarding the health of those children.

According to the official instructions tweeted by the Manipur Chief Minister from his account, many youths below the age of 12 years are yet to get their first vaccination. If schools are allowed to operate normally, this could represent a greater risk of infection and the spread of the disease to their home. Accordingly, the state government ordered the closure of all schools by July 24, 2022.

Schools across the country were closed for the first time in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and classes were moved online. Since then schools have only been partially opened amid strict COVID precautions.
