Fuel rates skyrocket after hike for third day in a row; Diesel in Chennai around ₹100
Petrol and diesel prices were hiked for the third consecutive day on Friday, taking pump rates across the country to higher levels. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked by Rs 0.35 and will cost Rs 106.89 per liter and Rs 95.62 per liter respectively in Delhi.
Petrol in Mumbai today costs Rs 112.78 per liter and diesel costs Rs 103.63 per litre.
Petrol in Kolkata will be sold for Rs. 107.45 per liter and diesel will be sold for Rs. 98.73 per litre. Prices on Thursday in Chennai start at Rs. 103.92 per liter for petrol and Rs. 99.92 per liter for diesel.
The most expensive fuel was in the border town of Ganganagar in Rajasthan, where petrol comes for ₹119.05 per liter and diesel ₹109.88 per litre.
Petrol is now 35.3 percent higher than the price at which aviation turbine fuel (ATF or jet fuel) is sold to airlines. ATF price in Delhi is ₹ 79,020.16 per kilo liter or roughly ₹ 79 per liter.
Rising fuel prices in the country are not going to come down immediately. The central government is in talks with several oil exporting countries on the issue of supply and demand of oil but there is no possibility of immediate relief in prices.
A source told ANI on Monday that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has recently raised concerns about the price, supply and demand for oil for major oil producing countries.
Crude oil prices are rising above a three-year high of $85 a barrel as global demand remains stable while OPEC+ is slowly moving forward on production growth.
Since September 5, when the prices of both petrol and diesel were revised, the price of petrol and diesel in the international market is around $9-10 per barrel higher than the average prices during August.
