India’s Rinku Singh won the ‘Fielder of the Series’ award for his sensational performances against Sri Lanka in the three T20Is. While Rinku did not produce an impactful performance with the bat, he showed up in the bowling unit during the run chase against their Asian counterparts. Following the conclusion of the T20I series, the BCCI shared a video of the dressing room ceremony where the 26-year-old was awarded a medal for his fielding efforts.

“Dressing Room BTS, Fielder of the series. T20I series win. Any guesses on the winner of the fielding medal? Find out,” read the caption of the post.

The video begins with Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant discussing who could win the fielder’s medal. Next, we can see one of India’s assistant coaches Ryan ten Doeschate talk about the award. “I think it’s a great initiative. I think the boys take a lot of pride in winning the medal. I’ve actually seen the physical medal which is a great touch from Dilip to bring that in,” the Dutchman said.

Following a brief clip of the award, we saw the Indian fielding coach T Dilip address the locker room before revealing the winner. Talking about the award’s significance, he said, “For me, I always believe that fielding in T20 cricket…is like a firefighter in an emergency. You have to be quick, decisive and fearless.”

The words sparked a loud cheer from the staff and players after which Dilip named the three nominees that were in contention for the medal. The fielding coach took the names of Riyan Parag, Ravi Bishnoi and Rinku Singh, all of whom made significant contributions across the three matches.

T Dilip then handed over the awarding duties to Ryan ten Doeschate. “The winner is someone who particularly in the second game, in the toughest of conditions, he started the innings quite poorly…Not poorly, he made a few mistakes and he kept coming harder, he kept running harder, he kept going for everything. And the winner of this medal is Rinku Singh,” he said.

Hearing the winner’s name, the entire locker room burst into a huge cheer as the Rinku made his way to get his medal. He reacted with his signature ‘God’s Plan’ shout before taking the award.

Rinku Singh scored two runs across the three matches against Sri Lanka. But Rinku made himself useful during India’s fielding by completing four catches and two wickets in those matches.
