RIMS ready to start kidney transplant Ranchi News – Times of India

Ranchi: Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (rim) is all set to become the 12th center in the country to organize kidney Transplant.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Dr Kameshwar Prasad, Director, RIMS said: “We have all seen an increase in kidney failure due to COVID-19 as the virus has adversely affected many vital human organs. Since human organs are not something that can be bought or regenerated, we need to promote organ donation. Keeping all this in mind, we are going to start kidney transplant in RIMS very soon.
Dr Prasad said that he would need additional manpower for this transplant And has started the process of appointing specialized surgeons for this purpose. RIMS is also going to start a 25-bed dialysis unit within a month after which the transplant will be started.
A State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) has been established at the RIMS campus as part of his efforts to introduce Renal Transplant. The college administration has already sent a proposal to the Director-in-Chief of Health Services for approval.
Speaking to TOI, Dr Rajeev Ranjan, Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy, who has been made the nodal officer for the programme, said: “With the establishment of SOTTO, we have started our journey towards the first kidney transplant at RIMS. has given. Once we get the necessary clearances, as the hospital management has already started recruiting the required manpower, we will start the transplant.”
When asked about the role of SOTTO, Dr. Ranjan said, “Our aim is to spread the message of organ donation as well as make people aware about the importance of organ donation so that more lives can be saved. Since RIMS is the largest hospital, we can benefit more and more organs through the donation process.”
Meanwhile, as part of the 36th National Eye Donation Fortnight, RIMS plans to honor the family members of 12 cornea donors on September 15. “The cornea transplant was started at RIMS almost three decades ago. However, it could not achieve the speed it should have. Now, we have decided to make it a regular practice and we will be felicitating the family members of cornea donors on 15th September. I have instructed the doctors that regular cornea transplant should be done,” said Dr Prasad.
RIMS also announced a 24-hour pathology unit at the trauma centre, which will be made operational by the end of this month.
