Percy Jackson and The Olympians have been making headlines since the first season of the popular novel adaptation aired. Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg created the series, which debuted in December on Disney+. The series has received rave reviews since its premiere, and fans of the novel were quite appreciative of the adaptation. Much to the delight of the audience, the streaming service has extended Percy Jackson and the Olympians for a second season.

Disney CEO Bob Iger made the statement during the company’s first-quarter earnings call for 2024. Reportedly, Season 1 has been streamed for over 110 million hours on Disney+ and Hulu. Further, the first episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians reportedly received 13.3 million views in its first six days of streaming on these OTT channels.

Adapted from Rick Riordan’s book series of the same name, Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as the title hero. The series also stars Leah Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri as Percy’s friends, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood. Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows the journey of Percy, who is still adjusting to his newfound superhuman abilities when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Percy and his friends, Annabeth and Grover, set out across America to find it and bring order to Olympus.

Percy Jackson fans eagerly praised this series, despite the fact that 20th Century Fox transformed the first two books of the complete series into films in 2010 and 2013. Earlier. The series producers Jonathan Steinberg and Dan Shotz opened up about the older Percy Jackson projects and the comparisons between the series that were expected. Jonathan Steinberg stated that the films made earlier did not affect the series. He said, “I think those movies, they are what they are. They were made by an entirely different team of people, in a different format and in a different time and I think what was exciting about this project was to be able to start with the source material itself and start with this book that has had such a magical connection to so many people. That’s a rare thing.”

When asked if they had any hurdles during production, Dan Shotz hinted that the buzz of releasing the series outweighed the difficulties. The series’ production began in June 2022 and was completed in roughly a year and a half.
