Richa Chadha slams Delhi restaurant for not letting woman wear saree: Remnants of post-colonial shock

Bollywood Actress Richa Chadha is known for being vocal on many issues, be it things going on in the film industry or politics or responding to hate from internet trolls. Recently, he was fiercely reprimanded for not giving entry to a woman wearing a sari in a restaurant in Delhi. In a video shared online, a woman can be seen arguing with the staff of Delhi’s Aquila restaurant who were not allowing her inside. “Ma’am, we only allow smart casuals and sarees do not come under smart casuals. That’s it,” the employees can be heard saying.

Richa shared the video on her official Twitter handle along with a note that read, “Condemning our traditional clothing, degrading our own languages, is a relic of the post-colonial trauma. It also creates a fertile breeding ground for fascism that takes advantage of this blow. Saree is smart, your policy is not! #SariNotSorry #Aquila.”

The incident went out of proportion when netizens supported the woman and took to Zomato for giving low reviews to the restaurant as an act of rebellion. This encouraged Zomato to issue a statement on the restaurant’s page, which read, “This restaurant is receiving a lot of media attention due to recent events. We are monitoring all reviews closely to ensure that they comply with our content guidelines.”
