Restore statehood to J&K before elections: PAGD | India News – Times of India

Srinagar: People’s Alliance for Gupkar Announcement (PAGD) said on Monday that assembly elections should be held only after resumption state status For Jammu and Kashmir and asked the BJP-led central government to make a commitment Parliament.
“As far as restoration of statehood is concerned, it has been the commitment of the BJP on the floor of Parliament and they should honor their promise,” coalition spokesperson and CPI(M) leader MY Tarigami said in a statement.
Tarigami said assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir “should be held only after full statehood is restored”.
“For this, PAGD has decided to reach out to other political parties in J&K to take a common position on the issue,” he said.
PAGD’s statement came a day after the coalition meeting chaired by National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah at his Gupkar residence here on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by coalition vice president and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, Tarigami, NC leader Hasnain Masoodi, People’s Movement chief Javed Mustafa Mir and Awami National Conference senior vice president Muzaffar Ahmed Shah.
The PAGD spokesperson said that the meeting was called to discuss the all-party meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Delhi on June 24.
