Defense establishment sources said on Saturday that in view of the COVID-19 situation in the national capital, around 24,000 people will be allowed to attend the Republic Day parade on January 26 this year.
The Delhi Traffic Police on Saturday announced new traffic restrictions for the national capital before January 26 to facilitate rehearsals for the Republic Day parade at Rajpath.
Traffic police said that restrictions would be imposed on Rajpath-Rafi Marg, Rajpath-Janpath, Rajpath-Mansingh Road and Rajpath-C-Hexagon. He said that the timing of the restrictions is between 9 am and 12 noon.
He said that the Rajpath will be banned on January 17, 18, 20 and 21 to facilitate the rehearsal for the Republic Day Parade. During this time the India Gate road from Vijay Chowk will remain closed.
In view of the COVID-19 situation in the national capital, around 24,000 people will be allowed to attend the Republic Day parade on January 26 this year, sources told news agency PTI at the defense establishment on Saturday. He said that in 2020, before the pandemic broke out in India, around 1.25 lakh people were allowed to attend the parade.
Sources said that last year’s Republic Day parade took place amid the Covid pandemic and around 25,000 people were allowed to attend. Like last year, this time too the parade may not have a foreign dignitary as the chief guest due to the pandemic, he said, adding that India is planning to invite leaders of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan. Was.
Sources said that of the around 24,000 people who will attend the parade this year, 19,000 will be invited and the rest will be the general public, who can buy tickets. All COVID-19 protocols will be followed in the parade. Social distancing norms will be followed while making seating arrangements, he mentioned, sanitiser dispensers will be available everywhere and wearing of masks will be mandatory.
