Red alert issued for Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh; Heavy rain forecast in next 72 hours

Heavy to very heavy rain warning has been issued in most 13 districts of Uttarakhand including parts of Himachal Pradesh. The development comes less than 24 hours after the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) issued a similar alert for Uttarakhand.

In a statement on Sunday, the SDRF had predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand between July 19 and July 21.

Three people died and four others are reported missing Cloud burst in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand on Sunday. SDRF Inspector Jagdamba Prasad told that the incident is from Mando village.

On the orders of SDRF chief Navneet Singh Bhullar, 28 teams have been kept on standby across the state to deal with any situation.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura in the next 72 hours.

Similar predictions have been made for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh, northeast Rajasthan, north Konkan, parts of Bihar and West Bengal.

Heavy rain has also been predicted for this parts of Himachal Pradesh. It has been raining incessantly in Shimla for the last 24 hours.

A red alert has been issued for four districts of the state – Kangra, Bilaspur, Mandi and Sirmaur. The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for the remaining eight districts of Himachal Pradesh.

A woman was killed, while her husband and son went missing after a car rammed into a gorge on Monday following a landslide in Himachal Pradesh. The incident took place at Dunali on Bharmour Road in the state’s Chamba district.

“The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level is approaching its normal position and is very likely to move northwards gradually from July 20,” the IMD said on Monday.
