The Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued an orange alert for Mumbai and neighboring Thane, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places, and a red alert for Pune, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Satara districts on Wednesday. does.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the red alert indicates that “extremely heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over the Ghat areas.”

Extremely heavy rainfall means more than 204.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

The IMD said that the intensity of rain is expected to reduce from Thursday.

Heavy rain and light to moderate rains are very likely at isolated places over the rest of the state.

An IMD report said Mumbai city received 51.5 mm of rain on Tuesday, while suburban areas recorded 54.6 mm of rain.

Coastal Raigad and Ratnagiri districts received 135.5 mm and 137.7 mm of rain, respectively, between Monday and Tuesday.

Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada received moderate rains, while most districts of Vidarbha recorded single digit rainfall between Monday and Tuesday, the report said.
