Ready to report to Mizoram Police if summoned: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati/Aizawl: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has been charged with criminal conspiracy and attempt to murder by the Mizoram Police after clashes at the inter-state border, said he would face arrest if called upon. He is ready to report to the Mizoram police, but will not allow the state government officials named in the FIR to face any investigation by him as well as the neighboring state.
Sarma told reporters here that he would not seek bail to evade summons from the Mizoram Police.
He said that only talks can resolve the border dispute between the two states and due to this any conflict is “unacceptable” to the people of both Assam and Mizoram.
“If I am summoned, I will go on a padyatra from Silchar to Vairengte and join the investigation. If they (Mizoram Police) arrest me and the situation becomes normal, I am ready for it. I am ready for bail. I will not ask Guwahati High Court,” he told reporters.
On the state’s stand after six Assam officials were named in the Mizoram Police FIR after the border clash at Lailapur in Cachar district, he said, “I have to protect my officers. I will allow them to be probed by the Mizoram police.” Can’t give. An incident that happened in Assam. We will not accept the summons issued to him.”
The Mizoram police had registered an FIR against Sarma and the Assam officials on various charges, including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy, at the Vairengte police station on the night of July 26, following an encounter between the police of the two states.
Seven people, including six Assam Police personnel, lost their lives in the clashes and over 50 people, including the Cachar Superintendent of Police, were injured.
Sarma said, “Our main focus is to keep the spirit of the Northeast alive. What happened on the Assam-Mizoram border is unacceptable to the people of both the states.
“Hon’ble CM @ZoramthangaCM promised to call me after my quarantine. Border disputes can be resolved only through discussion,” he said in a tweet.

“Our lawyers are preparing it and it is nearing completion. We will move the Supreme Court so that the border dispute can be resolved amicably. If scheduled caste Say we’re wrong, we’ll admit it.”
The Assam Police had also issued summons to six officials of the Mizoram government, including the Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police. colasibo district, on 28 July and ordered him to appear at Dholai police station on Monday.
On the investigation being carried out by both the states, Sarma said: “An inquiry is needed as precious lives were lost. So why should Assam Police or Mizoram Police investigate it. Let’s go. CBI Or NIA Investigate the matter impartially.”
Meanwhile, the Mizoram government has said that it is ready to withdraw the FIR against Sarma. Mizoram Chief Secretary Lalnunmawia Chuango said Chief Minister joramthanga Sarma’s name was not allowed to be included in the FIR.
“In fact, our chief minister suggested to me that we should look into it,” he told reporters. “I will discuss with the police officer who filed the FIR, and if there is no legal fit, we would like to remove the name of the Chief Minister of Assam from the FIR”, said Chuango.
He said that when the criminal case was registered against Sarma, he was not aware of the development.
The chief secretary, however, did not mention whether the cases registered against six Assam officials, including four senior Assam Police officers and 200 unidentified police personnel, would be withdrawn.
The FIR was registered on July 26 by Vairengte police station in-charge Lalchavimawiya.
Six officers from Assam were asked to appear before the investigating officer at the Vairengte police station on Sunday.
Assam Police on Sunday summoned Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena and Kolasib Deputy Commissioner H Lalthalangliana and six other officials, including Superintendent of Police Vanlalfaka Ralte, for questioning, a Mizoram official said.
earlier in the day, union home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Sarma and Zoramthanga over the phone.
“As per the telephonic discussions with the Union Home Minister and the Chief Minister of Assam, we have agreed to resolve the Mizoram-Assam boundary issue through fruitful dialogue,” Zoramthanga tweeted.
He urged the people of Mizoram to refrain from “posting sensitive messages and using social media platforms judiciously”.
Tension prevailed on the Assam-Mizoram border on Sunday as vehicles, including trucks carrying essential supplies, did not move for the sixth day. Officials said the situation was calm at the Lailapur border in Assam, where the clash took place, however, a large number of CRPF personnel were patrolling the NH-306, which passes through the inter-state border.
He said that vehicular movement came to a standstill in Barak Valley, though there was no restriction on traveling from one state to another.
Dozens of trucks carrying essential supplies, including COVID-19 material, wait on the Kabuganj-Dholai section of Cachar district.
“The organized blockade on the roads leading to Mizoram has been lifted and there are no groups on the roads to stop trucks or other vehicles. But the aggrieved citizens are now stopping the vehicles. Also, trucks and other commercial vehicles are no longer there. They are not taking risk and they are not trying to move themselves,” said an official.
He said vehicles from Mizoram side were also not entering Assam and only official and security vehicles were plying on the roads.
