Apple prides itself on its commitment to diversity, equality and an environment where everyone is able to do their best; However, in practice, this is far from the case. Our experiences dealing with harassment and discrimination with the People team has left many of us more vulnerable.
Apple’s policies on privacy and device linking also ensure that when we use recourse, we run the risk of invading our personal privacy. When we seek leave or accommodation through Apple’s mental and physical health partners, we are asked to release a wide range of personal medical information to Apple and any Apple agents for a comprehensive period of two years. Apple takes pride in its privacy policies, yet feels that as workers, we have no concerns about privacy.
Hundreds of us have documented our own stories of abuse, discrimination and harassment. Hundreds of us have documented our stories reporting through internal channels and getting no respite. By sharing our stories, we’re drawing attention to our experiences working at Apple, and how much better we can do.
At Apple, we are told to do the right thing, and this should extend to how we treat employees. We are arriving as Apple must deliver on its promise of inclusion, diversity and equity. We demand an environment where everyone feels safe and welcome and promises equal opportunities and treatment.
