RBI lowers currency limit for pilgrims visiting Kartarpur Gurdwara

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reduced the currency limit for pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib through the Kartarpur Corridor.

The RBI, which announced this in a release, said the total value of funds carried by the pilgrims cannot exceed Rs 11,000.

“In accordance with Regulation 10 of the Foreign Exchange Management (Export and Import of Currency) Regulations, 2015, as amended from time to time, the Reserve Bank, in public interest and in consultation with the Central Government, has decided that holders of Indian passports as well as those of Indian origin Individuals will be allowed to travel to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur, Narowal, Pakistan through Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor along with their passports with Overseas Citizen of India Card, will be allowed to take them out and bring them into India. His/her withdrawal, only in Indian currency notes and/or foreign currency in USD, the aggregate value of which cannot exceed ₹11,000,” said a release named after RBI Chief General Manager Yogesh Dayal.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, also known as Kartarpur Sahib, is located in Narowal district of Punjab province of Pakistan.

Notable for its location near the border between Pakistan and India, the Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is the holiest place of faith for Sikhs.

India had earlier announced to allow a ‘jatha’ of 1500 pilgrims to travel to Pakistan through the Kartarpur Corridor on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev from November 17 to 26 this year.
