Koraput: Following the forecast of India Meteorological Department (IMD) Cyclone Gulabo, ns Raigarh The administration has stepped up efforts to ensure that there are no casualties.
Official sources said the cyclone is likely to make landfall near Kalingapatnam between Gopalpur and Visakhapatnam by Sunday evening. It will bring heavy rainfall along with strong winds over South Odisha.
All precautionary measures have been taken to ensure minimum damage and zero casualties in the district. Collector (Raigarh) Saroj Kumar Mishra said that the authorities are on high alert, while additional measures have been taken in sensitive areas.
According to the collector, there is a possibility of sudden flood like situation in Rushikulya, Nagavali and Vanshdhara rivers due to heavy rains.
Landslides in the district cannot be ruled out.
He said that several villages of Gudri, Gunupur and Kalyansinghpur blocks and Sekhal in Rayagada block are in landslide prone areas and if necessary the people living in these areas would be shifted to safer places.
While the district administration has canceled the leave of all its employees for the next two days from Sunday, seven teams of ODRAF and two teams of NDRF have been deployed for rescue operations if required.
The district has stocked dry food in sufficient quantity at the panchayat level and has started shifting pregnant mothers to the nearest health centre.
He said that the officials have been asked to patrol the river embankments flowing inside the district and continuously update the district control room about the water level in the rivers.
