Ravi Shankar Prasad launches e-filing portal of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal

Launching the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) here on Friday, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the initiative should be seen as a bigger narrative of the transformation taking place in the country through digital medium. According to an official statement, the tribunal’s chairman Justice PP Bhatt said, ‘ITAT e-Dwar’ portal will enhance accessibility, accountability and transparency in the day-to-day functioning of ITAT.

Inaugurating the portal, Prasad said that the Digital India initiative seeks to bridge the gap between digital and digital that does not lead to digital inclusion achieved by technology that is low cost, in-house and developmental.

The Minister said that during the COVID pandemic and the consequent lockdown, the judiciary worked through digital means and heard more than one crore cases.

He said that more than 18 crore cases are available on the National Judicial Data Grid (NZDG) and suggested that ITAT cases should also be integrated with the grid.
