Many people around the world are falling prey to cybercrime, most commonly phishing. The latest targeted by it is Tamil director and actor Ravi Maria. As stated in a report published in The Times of India, the fraudsters created a fake Instagram account in the name of Ravi and asked for money from his friends. After complaining to the cybercrime police, Ravi Maria urged his friends on social media not to fall prey to phishers.

In a conversation with The Times of India, the Cyber ​​Crime Cell of Chennai South Zone has revealed more about the incident. According to Cell, one of the actor’s friends also sent Rs 7,000 to the impostor, believing that it was actually Ravi Maria. This friend later understood better and questioned Ravi, suspecting something amiss. Later they realize that it was a scam being done in the name of Ravi. Apart from releasing a video clip, Ravi Maria has also sought the help of the police to avoid such unfortunate incidents.

Ravi also shared screenshots of the fake Instagram IDs created by the fisher to siphon off money in his name. He appealed to social media users and fans not to revert any message sent from this ID. The followers revealed how the phisher, who operated the fake ID, requested them to follow them. Others revealed that they were asked to send an amount of Rs 10,000. This extortion scam using Ravi’s name could have gone on for a long time had it not been accidentally exposed. Fischer used words like actor, director, and writer in the bio to give the impression that it was a real account. This can be distinguished from the fact that there are no posts in the ID operated by Fischer, which indicates that it is fake. Sadly, 30 social media users have followed him despite posting enough information about the miscreant.
