Ravi Ashwin became India’s second highest wicket-taker in two matches, surpassing compatriot and iconic spinners Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. The star off-spinner took two wickets on Day 4 of the 2nd India vs West Indies Test, helping India take the lead in the West Indies line-up. He got the wickets of Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie as he made a remarkable leap forward in two matches of international and Test cricket.

Ashwin’s double wicket on the second day of the match saw him go past Harbhajan in the list of highest wicket takers in international cricket. The 36-year-old spinner now has 712 wickets across formats, while Singh has 711 wickets. He is now second in the list of highest wicket-taker for Indians in international cricket. Only Anil Kumble is ahead of him with 956 wickets in all three formats. Notably, it also includes matches played by Kumble for Asia XI.

Ashwin left behind Kumble in another case

Meanwhile, Ashwin might not have recorded all that on the day. He also left behind the great Anil Kumble in terms of taking the most wickets in Test cricket against the West Indies. The spin all-rounder has 75 wickets, while Kumble has 74 wickets. Ashwin is behind only Kapil Dev in this list as the former skipper has taken 89 wickets against the Windies.

India looking for another win against West Indies

The Indians would like to win the second Test match of the two-match series. They are 8 wickets away from getting their second result. Meanwhile, the Windies have added 76 runs to their score at the end of the fourth day. They lost their skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Kirk McKenzie to Ashwin in the final session, which could deal a blow to their winning plans. The hosts needed 289 more runs for a famous win.
