Rasika Duggal of Mirzapur fame talks about doing bold scenes, concept positive move of intimacy directors

The web series has changed the story as we know it and Rasika Duggal is at the forefront of this massive entertainment overhaul. The actress continues to play different roles in different genres and is often referred to as the ‘OTT Queen’ or ‘Gamechanger’ for her perfect performances, which range from Humorously Yours to Mirzapur and Out of Love. We spoke to her on the occasion when she was nominated in the Best Actress category for her lead performances in Mirzapur 2 and Lootcase (film) at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) and sought her feedback on what contributed to her undeniable success Went. digital space.

She tells us, “I made interesting choices, but that’s because there were writers and producers who were gamechangers. If these projects weren’t written or looked around, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to pick them up in the first place. Over the last two years, the opportunities I’ve had as an actor were because the writers thought out of the box and the producers believed in them, even if they weren’t very ‘popular’ or the norm at the time. . I have had the privilege of collaborating with gamechangers and hence got the opportunity to experiment with interesting stories and characters. I’ve always picked projects not because I thought they were different or would take me somewhere, but because I felt connected to them and wanted to invest in the process.”

She adds, “It is easier to invest in a well-written piece. That way, half of your work is already done. Then all you have to do is follow the script, give it your personality and play with it. When it doesn’t, you’re struggling with the basics and trying to give your character some momentum that the script needs to be anyway. Most of the characters I have done are nuanced. With Mirzapur and Lootcase, they were very different roles and a part of me was always eager to do something like that.”

On your screen time in Mirzapur

“My character Bina Tripathi is proof that screen time doesn’t matter, it does matter. It’s an ensemble cast and characters who have more screen time than that. But at the same time, I think a well-written screenplay will serve a character. This will give the space the character needs. Neither more nor less. Bina may not have a lot of screen time in the show but she is still very influential.”

At his comfort level in doing intimate scenes

“I don’t classify scenes as bold or bold. In Out of Love, the relationship is between a man and a woman and it’s a very regular thing. I don’t think there’s anything extraordinary in that to be bold. To be said. If they matter to me in the story and they are beautifully filmed, I have no hesitation. To be respectful about treating the actors around us in a certain way All the sets I have worked on have been very sensitive towards the actors, male or female. All these scenes are carefully handled and professionally executed. The concept of Intimacy Directors is also coming Which I think is a very positive move. They are qualified to overcome them and make sure that no one who is a part of them feels that they are not treated with respect and sensitivity. it was done.”

Rasika on the abusive language of Mirzapur

“Every story decides how it should be told. As creative collaborators, it’s important to discuss what’s necessary and what’s not, and I’ve always had these conversations with the people I work with. Is this line necessary here or just for sensation? The makers of Mirzapur have treaded the thin line very carefully. They have been true to their story and have invested in developing the characters so that you can share with them Stay tuned and wait for a later season.”

Rasika on Mirzapur Reviews

“People told me that they never imagined me in the role of Bina. It’s a very interesting response as an actor. You can only hope that people are stunned by your work where a character is very different from your everyday personality. It’s a great compliment for an actor.”

Rasika will return in the upcoming season of International Emmy Award winning anthology series Delhi Crime. “We have shot most of it. There’s only a little patch left,” she signs off.
