Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who is busy promoting his upcoming film ’83’, shared a video of his father-in-law Prakash Padukone talking about India’s victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup. The badminton legend cherished his memories of the World Cup final between India and West Indies and said that he could not watch the match live as he was playing in Denmark.

The legendary badminton player took a trip down the memory lane and recalled how the World Cup final victory changed the landscape of Indian cricket. “June 25, 1983, was a historic day in the history of Indian sports. India won the World Cup for the first time, most unexpectedly! We were in Denmark at the time. I was playing professional badminton. I could not watch the match live. Trying to get news from radio or BBC. When we heard that India has won the World Cup I think it was unbelievable.

Prakash said, ‘India had defeated the mighty West Indies in those days. This was the turning point for Indian cricket. Whatever was the game, that became the religion.”

The ‘Gully Boy’ actor wrote a lovely note for his ‘dear father-in-law’ while sharing the video on his Instagram handle. She wrote, “The living legend of badminton, a world champion myself and my dear father-in-law Prakash Padukone, cherish the memories of the 1983 World Cup victory.”

Ranveer Singh promoted ’83’ in the UAE with cricket legends including Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath and Sunil Gavaskar. The ‘Padmavat’ actor was in awe of the film’s trailer, which was screened at Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

When is ’83’ releasing?

The much-awaited sports drama, which is based on India’s victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, will hit the silver screens on December 24, 2021. Ranveer Singh will play the role of former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev in the film directed by Kabir Khan. Deepika Padukone, who is one of the co-producers, plays Singh’s on-screen wife.
