Vaibhav Raval struck a brilliant hundred before fast bowler Divij Mehra took five wickets as Delhi registered a memorable eight-wicket win in their Ranji Trophy Group B match here on Friday.

It was Delhi’s first win over heavyweights Mumbai since the 1979–80 Ranji Trophy final, when Bishan Singh Bedi’s side thrashed Sunil Gavaskar’s side by 240 runs.

After dismissing Mumbai for 293 in the first innings, Delhi took a 76-run lead with the help of Vaibhav Raval’s 114 and captain Himmat Singh’s 85.

The 20-year-old Mehra, playing only his second first-class game, then delivered a masterclass in seam bowling at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as he was very popular with the Mumbai top-order.

His scalps included Prithvi Shaw, Musheer Khan, Armaan Jaffer, first-innings centurion Sarfaraz Khan and Mohit Awasthi as he paved the way for Delhi’s first win of the season.

Resuming on 168/9 on the final day, Mumbai’s Tanush Kotian (50 not out) managed a half-century before spinner Ritik Shokin scalped the last wicket with Mumbai scoring 170 in his second essay.

Opener Anuj Rawat (14) hit two fours and a six in his four-ball knock. Vaibhav Sharma (36) and Hrithik Shokeen (36 not out) then shared a 69-run partnership, hitting nine fours and two sixes.

After Sharma was dismissed in the 16th over, former captain and IPL specialist Nitish Rana, who was inducted into the squad on the eve of the match, walked into the middle and hit a first-ball six to seal Delhi’s victory . ,

In the other group matches, spinner Lalit Mohan, who had taken five wickets in the first innings, took six wickets (6/58) in the second innings as Andhra beat Saurashtra by 150 runs, while Tamil Nadu claimed and Assam Won by 70 runs.
