With this Vidarbha successfully defended the lowest score – 73 – in first-class cricket in India, bettered by Bihar’s 78 against Delhi at Jamshedpur in the 1948–49 season.

Left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate took 11 wickets in the match as Vidarbha beat Gujarat by 18 runs and defended 73 runs in their Ranji Trophy Group D match at Jamtha on the third morning here.

With this Vidarbha successfully defended the lowest score – 73 – in first-class cricket in India, bettered by Bihar’s 78 against Delhi at Jamshedpur in the 1948–49 season.

At a venue where India’s first Test against Australia is to be played in less than a month, 15 wickets fell on the first day of the match, followed by 16 on the next.

Chasing 73, Gujarat resumed their second essay on the third morning at 54 for six in 31 overs, Sarwate once again leading his line with impressive figures of 15.3-6-17-6. Ran with -up. To complement his first innings 5/64.

Vidarbha took the lead in their second essay with Jitesh Sharma hitting a 53-ball 69 while No.9 batsman Nachiket Bhute also made a valuable contribution of 42 off 66 balls.

Gujarat’s Siddharth Desai, who bowled left-arm orthodox spin, was in his prime as he returned with 6/74 to bundle out Vidarbha for 254 and with a small target of 73 a victory seemed a formality for the visitors .

But Sarwate had other ideas as the Gujarat batsmen fell like a nine-pin on the third morning as Vidarbha grabbed six points from the match to move joint second with Punjab.
