Ranji Trophy 2022-23: Karnataka Have Advantage Over Chhattisgarh Riding on SJ Nikin Jose’s Half-century

SJ Nikin Jose’s 67-run knock played a big role in Karnataka taking the first innings lead on the third day of their Ranji Trophy Group C match against Chhattisgarh on Thursday.

Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal started the game at 202 for 1 and added only 15 runs to his score before being dismissed for 117 by Sumit Ruikar.

There was a period when the visiting team came back strongly and controlled the scoring. Chhattisgarh’s bowlers took wickets at regular intervals to bundle out the home team for 287 for 6 and take the first innings lead.

The highly rated 22-year-old Jose (134 balls, 8 fours, 1 six) shared a 33-run seventh-wicket partnership with K Gautam (18) to take Karnataka ahead of the opponent’s first innings score. 311.

Jose added 26 runs with last man Vidwat Kaverappa, who did not score a single run, and ensured that the team went past 55 runs.

In the second innings, Chhattisgarh lost their openers without scoring any runs as Kaverappa and V Kaushik removed Avneesh Singh and AG Tiwary. Ashutosh Singh (8 batting) and Amandeep Khare (23 batting) ensured that no more damage was done as they ended the day at 35 for 2, still 20 runs behind.
