After completing a month of rigorous dance training on Friday, 18 artistes, including 10 women and eight men, are set to showcase their acting and dancing talents at the Patharchatti Ramlila Maidan. The Ramlila of Patharchatti Ramlila Samiti will start from 7th October and end on 15th October.
Renowned choreographer, Poornima Kumar told TOI: “This year, artistes performing various characters will perform various episodes of Ramleela and perform it through dance forms like Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Odissi, folk dance, tribal dance and Awadhi style. will be presented in front of the audience. He said the artists have been given a month of rigorous training from September 1 to October 1, in which they spend at least five hours daily to learn the correct forms and incorporate dance and acting into their performances.
Meanwhile, Kumar said, “We are now finalizing the dance and acting choreography and a team of 18 actors – who play the lead characters in Ramleela – will showcase their talent in Ramleela.”
Purnima Kumar, who is associated with the Patharchatti Ramlila Samiti for the last 12 years, is also working in NCR (North Central Railway) on the post of office superintendent. She joined NCR in 2013 and is volunteering to provide dance training to Ramleela actors.
