ramcharitmanas line: Bihar Education Minister and RJD leader Chandrashekhar’s remarks on Ramcharitmanas have created a tussle between two major parties of ‘Mahagathbandhan’ in Bihar- Rashtriya Janata Dal and Janata Dal (United).

JD(U) leader Upendra Kushwaha today (January 14) said that the statement is based on the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and commenting on the subject will directly benefit it.

Speaking to the media today, Kushwaha said, “The statement will directly benefit the BJP. The topic on which he spoke is BJP’s agenda. Speaking on BJP’s agenda means playing on their pitch. If we play there, So who will benefit? BJP.”

He further said that cognizance should be taken of the matter. “Our agenda is social justice, secularism, development and the CM’s work in all these years… RJD said they stand by Chandrashekhar’s remarks. What does this mean? The matter should be taken cognizance, it is needed, the JD(U) leader said.

Others including JDU’s Neeraj Kumar recited the epic Hindu religious book outside a Hanuman temple in Patna. Chandrashekhar’s comment on Ramcharitmanas has sparked outrage among Hindu religious leaders and the BJP as well. They have demanded his dismissal from the government.

Know about the ‘Ramcharitmanas’ controversy:

A Bihar minister on Wednesday (January 11) courted controversy when he claimed that the Ramcharitmanas, an epic Hindu religious book based on the Ramayana, “spreads hatred in the society”. Addressing the students at the 15th convocation of Nalanda Open University, he described Ramcharitmanas and Manusmriti as books that divide the society.

“Why was Manusmriti burnt, as it contained many slurs against a large section. Why was Ramcharitmanas opposed and which part was opposed? Lower caste people were not allowed to get education and Ramcharitmanas It has been said that lower caste people become poisonous.” After getting education, after drinking milk, it becomes like a snake.

He has said that Manusmriti and Ramcharitmanas are such books which spread hatred in the society because they prevent Dalits-backwards and women from getting education in the society.

Chandrashekhar further said, “Manusmriti, Ramcharitmanas, Guru Golwalkar’s Bunch of Thoughts…these are such books that spread hatred. The country will not become great by hatred, the country will become great by love.”

However, in the face of vigorous opposition, the minister continued to defy. Talking to mediapersons, the Bihar minister said, “How many times do I say the same thing? I spoke the truth, I stand by it. Whatever anyone says, what do I have to do with it?”
