The sequel to Ram Pothineni-starrer iSmart Shankar has been anticipated ever since the release of the science fiction action film. After three years of speculation, the sequel titled Double iSmart was announced in September 2022. The teaser of the film was released a month back and received a positive response from fans. Now, the release date of the film is out. Double iSmart will reportedly hit theatres on Independence Day, August 15. This piece of announcement comes right after the initial release date of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 has been indefinitely postponed.

Pushpa 2: The Rule, one of the most eagerly anticipated films of this year was slated for release on August 15 but was postponed indefinitely by the makers due to unknown reasons. Puri Jagannadh took the opportunity to lock in the Independence Day holiday for his film Double iSmart. The announcement was accompanied by a release date poster featuring Ram Pothineni in a dynamic and powerful avatar. In the image, he is seen with three horizontal lines of Vibhooti on his forehead. The background includes a Shiva Lingam and a flambeau, adding to the intense atmosphere.

The release date of August 15 puts Double iSmart at a strategic advantage as there’s not just a holiday on Thursday, but another holiday on Monday (Raksha Bandhan). That will allow Double iSmart to enjoy a 4-day weekend. The film holds significance for both Ram Pothineni and Puri Jagannadh as both are at a low point in their respective careers. Ram Pothineni’s last film Skanda was both a critical and commercial failure while Puri Jagannadh’s much hyped Liger starring Vijay Devarakonda turned out to be a complete washout. Puri Jagganad decided to make Double iSmart after his film with Vijay Devarakonda, Jana Gana Mana, was shelved due to the dismal performance of Liger.
